Introduced at the GM Motorama at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York City in 1954, GM Motorama Site, as one of Head Stylist, Harley Earl's "dream cars," the first Nomad was based on a Corvette. After receiving rave reviews on its advanced styling, the Nomad was rushed into production as a full sized 55 Chevy. It was available to the public by January 1955, about 4 months after the regular 55 line launch. By the way, that first prototype, though long gone, is still referred to as the "Waldorf Nomad."
