The Splinter concept was developed by Joe Harmon for his graduate project at the Industrial Design Course - North Carolina State University.

The main idea is to build a high-performance, mid-engined supercar from wood composites, using wood whereever possible, including the chassis, body, and large percentages of the suspension components and wheels.

The car has a target weight of 2500lbs and a power goal of over 600 horsepower delivered by a turbocharged 4.6 liters V8 unit.

The claimed goal of the team led by Joe Harmon is to "explore materials, learn, teach, share ideas, and stimulate creativity". and it looks very stylish and different to other Cars

IT`S called a "SPLINTER".A U.S. design company has created the world's first wooden supercar, which would put both Porsche and Lamborghini in the shade with a staggering top speed of 240 mph. The 4.6 meter-long, two-seater "Splinter" car, made from maple, plywood and MDF, has a 4.6 liter V8 petrol engine and a six-speed gearbox. Splinter weighs 1,134 kilograms -- 240 kilograms less than the lightweight Porsche 911 GT3. World's first wooden sports car Splinter is due to hit the road late 2008. The design company, Joe Harmon Design, has not yet decided on a price for the super car.
