Mike Cahill first got his ’61 Unibody back in 1975 as a gift from his grandfather. Being in high school at the time Mike both used it as transportation and as the focus of his rudimentary customization (we all know how 16-year-old boys are). Needless to say it ended up getting parked … 35 years and four children later, Mike finally gained the experience and the extra cash to return his attention to the Ford. With the help of Rob Demasters of Muscle Car Metal Crafters and Sal Difazio of Paint Power & Trim, Mike’s Unibody was transformed from junker to jewel. Above and beyond fresh body work, paint, and interior the pickup was treated to a Fatman Mustang II-type frontend, Hot Rod to Hell track arm rear suspension, a John Barret 347-cube stroker motor, Vintage Air A/C, an ididit column, topped by a Billet Specialties steering wheel, a set of Billet Specialties wheels, and numerous other components from Carolina Classics, Mac’s, Dennis Carpenter, Speedway Motors, and Summit Racing Equipment. Mike said that both his UPS and FedEx driver’s were just as happy as he when the truck was finally completed.
