They don’t get nearly as much attention as the ’69-70 versions, but the later Mach 1 Mustangs are still cool cars in our book. That goes double if they happen to be a cool ’70s shade like Joe Stubitsch’s Grabber Lime ’71. Only 1,933 Machs were ever sprayed that color, so they’re always eye-catching at a show. Under that long hood, Joe went with a 351 Cleveland with Procomp 3V heads and intake, and a COMP Cams Big Mutha Thumpr cam. Not only does it sound beastly, but it throws 380 hp to the wheels through an AOD trans with a 2,800-stall converter. So far we’ve only seen one Mustang of this generation that has undergone a pro build (and you’ll see it in PHR soon), but it could be the start of something new as people continue to look for ways to be different.

1971 by far was the beat year for the Mustang. It looks the best.I owned one.The only thing was the sportsroof. It was so hard to park back in the day especially. They did not have the QVC blind spot mirrors to assist in parking if you had to park on the passengers side which was kinda rough with the factory mirrors but overall the car 1971 still today with all the fancy electronics I still think the style for 1971 fo the body was way ahead of itself in time.I felt back in 1971 the change from 1970 to 1971 was a very radical body style change. The car looked decades ahead of itself. It looked like it came from the future.Ford should seriously think of doing a retro style remake of the 1971 Mustang for the future .They are making mustangs today to look like 1969-1970 models. They should bring back the Sportsroof style
When I came home after serving in the US Air Force during The Vietnam War back in 1971 my first thought was a job and geting to the job I needed transport. My first stop was the Ford dealer where my Mom bought a strange car which looked like a Ford Maverick without a trunk. It was a Ford Pinto in the strangest color loud green. I made a deal at the dealer in NJ for a !971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with a Sortsroof and the honeycomb grill same as above but in red.I love red because my unit during the Vietnam War was called Redhorse. We were a Combat Support Civil Engineering Group. So I love red on everything from women red cars red hair red dresses.red bloodshot eyes LOL.Red Mustang. All red cars
Don't you just LOVE those snots who think that "this year or that year, or that model" is better. If the car's nice and looks good, then sod off and blow bubbles into your beer! This one's a looker! +fav.
