Like other GM muscle cars, the Chevrolet Chevelle received a bigger big block for 1970. A stroked version of the Corvette's 427, it displaced 454 cubic inches and made 360 horsepower in the base setup. For a reasonable $263, customers could order the LS-6 version with a whopping 450 horsepower. It featured solid lifters, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons and an 11:1 compression ratio, and it launched the car to low 13-second quarter-mile times. The Chevelle would never again be as powerful as it was in 1970.
