Phaetons are just roadsters with two more doors. Scritch's ushered in the advent of resto-rods and "street" rodding, since it was built to drive with no pretense or even a nod to racing. He retained the luggage rack, side mounts, stock horn, and cowl lights—geegaws most hot rodders discarded. Plus, he already had a roadster to race—see McGee roadster.
